Special Purpose Machines (SPMs) fill the gaps where standard equipment cannot. This case study follows a recent project from initial consultation through commissioning.
The Challenge
A ductile iron pipe manufacturer needed to hydrotest pipes up to 2,500 mm diameter and 12 meters in length — well beyond the capacity of any commercially available testing rig.
Our Solution
Our engineering team designed a semi-automated testing system featuring computer-controlled pressure ramping, real-time leak detection via ultrasonic sensors, and a PLC-based safety interlock system.
